Nearly 7,000 visitors recently attended an open house at Keokuk Energy Center in Keokuk, Iowa. The visitors came out in strong numbers despite a heat wave and summer storms to tour the facility and see displays of construction photos as well as old tools and instruments.
"It was spectacular, actually, considering all the heat," says Larry Weiman, plant superintendent, Keokuk Energy Center. "It's good for the Tri-State area to come together and see a pretty neat place. The sheer size of it and the fact that it's still operational after 99 years amazes people."
Next year the Keokuk Energy Center celebrates its 100th anniversary, which is scheduled for June 2013.
