Previously he served as chairman, chief executive officer and president of Ameren Corporation—a position he assumed Jan. 1, 2004, after serving as president and chief operating officer of Ameren for three years.

Mr. Rainwater joined Union Electric Company—now the Ameren utility company, AmerenUE—in 1979. He also assumed added responsibility for the Transmission Planning and Energy Services departments.

In 1997 Mr. Rainwater was elected executive vice president of the Springfield, Illinois-based AmerenCIPS. In late 1997, he became president and CEO of AmerenCIPS, and in May 2000, he assumed additional responsibility for Ameren’s non-regulated generating subsidiary.

Mr. Rainwater earned a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia and a master of systems management degree from the University of Southern California. In 2000, Mr. Rainwater received the prestigious Missouri Honor Award for Distinguished Service in Engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia College of Engineering. In 2003, he received the University of Missouri-Columbia Alumni Association Alumni Award.

He serves on the dean’s advisory council for the University of Missouri School of Engineering. Mr. Rainwater is a member of the boards of the St. Louis Regional Commerce and Growth Association, the Missouri Historical Society, and Washington University.
