What’s in Your Home?

Appliances can be found in every room of our homes today. Try counting them, and you will be astonished to see how many you have. In today’s modern home, there seems to be an electronic gadget for just about everything.

Many of these small electronic wonders cost just pennies a day to run. Check below for the cost to operate common home appliances.

Cordless Phone – 2 cents/day

Coffee Maker – 2 cents/brew

Electric Frying Pan – 4 cents/hour

Microwave Oven – 1 cent/15 minutes

Toaster – 2 cents each use

Garbage Disposal – 1 cent each use

Most small appliances consume very little energy because their use is for short periods of time. On the other hand, major appliances, such as refrigerators, electric ranges and dishwashers, are used more frequently and require more electricity to power them.

Refrigerator – 43 cents/day

Electric Range - 7 cents/meal

Dishwasher – 7 cents/load

Personal Computer – 2 cents/hour

Television – 5 cents/hour

To learn about the energy efficiency of a major appliance you’re thinking about buying, check the yellow and black Energy Guide label it displays. For more information, visit Energystar.gov.
