Tips on how to save more than 20¢ a day

Here are some simple, low-cost or no-cost steps you can take to cut your daily energy charges:

Don’t use a second refrigerator and freezer and save 48 cents a day. (If you need it for holidays or special occasions, plug it in two days before you need it.)

Use the microwave instead of an electric oven and save up to 19 cents a day.

Turn off your big-screen TV when you aren’t watching it and save up to 17 cents a day.

Reduce your number of electric dryer loads from 24 hours per month to 12 hours per month and save 13 cents a day on energy costs.

Replace the five most frequently used light bulbs in your house with ENERGY STARŪ compact fluorescent bulbs and save 16 cents a day.

Other measures, like cooking with small appliances instead of large ones, using the “air dry” feature on your dishwasher and adding R7 attic insulation can eliminate up to another 20 cents a day from your bill.
