Maintaining Your Service: Who’s Responsible for Storm Damage Repairs?

Severe storms can damage electric utility distribution systems, but they may also damage components for which homeowners are responsible. Such damage may result in a service outage.

Check the drawing on the right for specific maintenance information.

Ameren maintains:

1.

The electric line that carries power to your home; and

6.

The electric meter.

You are responsible for:

2.

The service bracket or pipe riser, which protects the line as it enters your home;

3.

The weatherhead, which keeps rain and debris out of the pipe riser;

4.

The pipe riser, which serves as a guide and protection for the lines entering the meter box; and

5.

The meter box, which protects the meter connections.

Repairs to your components should always be performed by a licensed electrician. Additional information is available in our Outage Information section on maintaining your service and trees and your service.
