Winter’s winds may be the furthest thing from your mind, but all too soon temperatures will drop and you will expect your heating system to keep you warm until spring’s return.
By following the tips below, you not only can stay comfortable this winter, but save money at the same time.

Reduce your monthly energy bill by sealing your windows, doors and other openings (pipes, outlets, vents, etc.) against air leaks.

Have your furnace serviced by a heating professional in the fall, before the heating season begins.

Add humidity to indoor air to make your home feel warmer.

Turn the thermostat down in the winter. For every degree, you can save 2 percent to 3 percent on your energy bill.

Add insulation to your attic.

Use ceiling fans to keep warm air moving.

Close off rooms you are not using.

Change the furnace filter on a regular basis, usually once a month.

Open curtains, blinds and shades to let the sun’s warmth in. Close them at night to insulate against the cold night air.
