On Feb. 2, employees from Ameren Missouri’s Cape Girardeau Operations Center took the plunge into 28-degree water at Trail of Tears State Park in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Nearly 300 participants took the annual plunge, raising more than $53,000 to benefit the Special Olympics.
For 40 years, Special Olympics has been giving the chance for individuals with intellectual disabilities to succeed through sports. With more than 15,000 participants in Missouri, the organization provides year-round sports training and athletic competitions to help develop their physical fitness, confidence, skills and involvement within the community.
The Polar Plunge is just one of many Special Olympic events in which Ameren employees participate annually.
