On the Job
- Use wooden or fiberglass ladders when near power lines and electrical wiring. Metal ladders conduct electricity. Always carry a ladder horizontally, not vertically, to avoid contact with power lines.
- Always locate and be aware of power lines, especially when working on scaffolding or using long metal tools, like ladders, pool skimmers and pruning poles. Keep yourself at least 10 feet from lines.
- Be mindful of overhead lines as you carry a ladder.
- Be careful where you place the ladder. At all times, avoid contact with overhead wires, and never touch or approach a down power line. Contact Ameren to report down power lines.
