Brenda knows the true effects of a declining national economy. As a volunteer at an Ameren Dollar More funded agency, she had dedicated countless hours to helping families in need through hard times. After a round of layoffs hit this 14-year federal employee, she suddenly needed help paying her utility bills. “Living without power is horrible and it’s depressing,” says Brenda. “As a college graduate with a good job, I never thought I would be in this situation.”
Now, the very program where Brenda volunteered is helping her stay warm. Through Dollar More, she received assistance with her utility bills and access to other much needed resources. Now Brenda can refocus her attention on helping others. She has decided to become a social worker. When Brenda returns to school, she will be able to study in the comfort of her warm home—thanks, to Dollar More.
