Few things touch our lives as universally as energy. It bathes us in comfort, keeps us healthy and safe, connects our world, and brings to life the goods and services we need for sustenance.
Yet securing our energy future is a challenging prospect for our nation. We must support population growth and the economy, protect our natural resources, and adapt an aging infrastructure to a new world. How do you tackle one issue without compromising the others? And to get to the real heart of the matter:
will the lights stay on?
Ameren is proactively planning for the future.
We’re working hard to provide for our customers today while propelling them – and our company -- forward. This means:
- Actively participating in the climate change conversation. Working with federal legislators to establish laws that both protect our customers and make meaningful steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
- Promoting energy efficiency programs that save customers money, conserve generating capacity and lessen the urgency to build new plants.
- Exploring opportunities to convert waste to energy. Methane to Megawatts is one example, and there are more.
- Taking a sensible approach to renewables. Being innovative and forward-thinking about alternative fuels and “green” generation, while also considering feasibility, reliability, and customer cost. Balance is key.
- Investing in infrastructure. Rebuilding, upgrading and expanding hundreds of miles of transmission lines, substations and cables along with other system improvements.
We may not know what the future holds, or exactly what the energy business will look like tomorrow. But we’re working to ensure that secure, reliable, sustainable energy will be its foundation. That is our promise to you.
