Diversity Training and Workshops
Making Ameren employees aware of their differences and giving them the tools to work successfully with co-workers and customers who are different from them is the first step toward recognizing, respecting and appreciating the differences in others.
To develop this understanding, Ameren is providing diversity training to its employees. Ameren’s mandatory training begins by answering the questions of what diversity is and how it is incorporated into our business.
Beginning Jan. 1, 2003, all new employees receive the following diversity training:
- As part of new employee orientation, each new employee receives a one-hour overview on diversity and how to appreciate the differences within us all.
- Employment Policy Update Training provides employees an understanding of the anti-discrimination and anti-harassment policies at Ameren and emphasizes our expectations of acceptable conduct for employees.
- Supervisors and managers receive four hours and bargaining unit employees receive two hours of policy training.
- A day-long diversity awareness training provides an understanding of the changing demographics both outside and inside Ameren. It also provides an overview of how people form perceptions, the potential for offensive behavior based on these perceptions and how to interrupt offensive behavior when it occurs.
Evaluating and designing continued diversity training is the responsibility of the diversity manager. The content of the diversity training to be provided to employees is determined by the diversity manager, with assistance from the Ameren Diversity Council. Diversity training programs are made available to employees each year.
