Electric outage summary
Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Update
Underground systems in Newark, New Jersey and New York are particularly damaged from seawater that has penetrated into equipment and substation areas. In Manhattan, the biggest challenge is restoring electrical service to underground equipment, which requires cleaning all components of seawater, drying and testing the equipment in order to make it safe before restoring power.
Response is being coordinated between Federal, state and local governments, as well as through
Mutual Assistance Networks
activated by utility companies.
The total number of resources dedicated, 53,000 people. Those responding have traveled as far away as Mexico, Canada and Washington State.
