Sure, Callaway Plant hires nuclear engineers. But it also hires mechanical, chemical and electrical engineers, along with technicians, craft and skilled workers, administrative support personnel and many other types of professionals. Positions range from entry-level to mid-career to senior management.
Some of the positions are contractor positions, which are hired and employed by outside agencies.
The nuclear industry is an exciting industry with highly competitive salaries and benefits. It’s also a growing industry. Currently 17 companies around the country are exploring filing applications for 33 new reactors.
AmerenUE is one of those companies.
In July 2008, the company filed an application with the NRC to build a second nuclear plant. If the decision is made to build a new plant, it will require a workforce of up to 2,500 contractors to construct the plant at peak construction and nearly 400 new permanent employees.
