UE entered the automobile business -- selling electric cars. The company became the St. Louis agent for Studebaker and Rauch & Lang autos.

The Mattoon City Railway was reorganized as the Central Illinois Public Service Co., using this early logo for a quarterly report.

Samuel Insull gained control of CIPS, making it a subsidiary of his Middle West Utilities Co. The company embarked on an expansion program, acquiring 60 utility properties. The 6,000-kilowatt Kincaid Power Station was completed the following year, ushering in the era of large generating stations. Though small by modern standards, the Kincaid Power Station was a jewel of the CIPS system during the early days.

St. Louis converted city streelights from arc lamps to incandescent lamps.
