Where We Stand

Ameren remains a corporation with a tradition of more than 100 years of service to America's heartland.

In May 2000, Ameren transferred the five former AmerenCIPS power plants, representing 2,900 megawatts of generation, to AmerenEnergy Generating Company, a newly created nonregulated company. Later that year the company added 690 megawatts of new generation with the start-up of combustion turbine units.

In 2001, Ameren added 820 megawatts of generation to the nonregulated AmerenEnergy Generating Company and created a nonregulated fuels service company -- AmerenEnergy Fuels and Services -- to provide fuel and energy-related products and services for Ameren and its affiliated operating companies.

Ameren employees, totaling approximately 7,400, now provide energy services to 1.5 million electric and 300,000 natural gas customers in more than 44,500 square miles in Illinois and Missouri.

Company employees and executives, along with area TV crews, gather in January 1998 for Ameren Day, to mark the completion of the merger between Union Electic and CIPS.

Among the nation's top utility companies in size and sales, Ameren includes as its subsidiaries, in addition to AmerenUE and AmerenCIPS, an energy marketing and trading affiliate -- AmerenEnergy; CIPSCO Investment Company, which manages non-utility investments, including leveraged leases, marketable securities and energy projects; AmerenEnergy Resources, the holding company for the generation, development, marketing and fuels services companies -- AmerenEnergy Generating, AmerenEnergy Marketing and AmerenEnergy Fuels & Services; and Ameren Services, which provides support services to the corporation and its subsidiaries.

With a total of 14 power plants, Ameren companies' net generating capacity is more than 12,600 megawatts, including Ameren's 80 percent share of the Electric Energy, Inc., Joppa, Ill., coal-fired plant.
