CFL Savings Tips 
 
Here are some tips to help you get the most life out of your CFLs.
  • Turning a CFL on and off too many times can shorten bulb life. Use CFLs in light fixtures you leave on for 15 minutes or more.
  • Hold a CFL by the base when you screw it into a fixture. Holding the glass spiral to tighten a CFL can shorten bulb life or break the bulb.
  • When a CFL is used in an enclosed fixture, like a ceiling can light, the heat is trapped in the fixture. If the bulb’s base gets too hot, the bulb can burn out.
  • Check the ENERGY STAR® Choose A Light Guide to help you select the right type of CFL for every fixture in your home.
  • It’s important to choose the right bulb for each type of light fixture in your home to get the longest use from CFLs. Look for the ENERGY STAR® logo when you buy bulbs, to get a safe, efficient, high-performance lighting product.
