Clothes Dryer Overview
 For Electric Customers

As the second greatest energy-consuming appliance behind the refrigerator, clothes dryers may use large amounts of energy, but the costs to operate varies from original timed-drying models to new models that automatically shut off when sensing dryness.

The Department of Energy's Appliance Standards program conducted a detailed study which found that the clothes dryers on the U.S. market do not vary significantly from each other in terms of energy consumption. Because of this reason, ENERGY STAR® does not label clothes dryers, and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) does not require clothes dryers to have a yellow EnergyGuide label.
