Programmable Thermostat Savings Tips
  • Save energy in the winter by setting the thermostat to 68°F when you're home and setting it lower while you're sleeping or away from home.
  • As soon as your heated space drops below its normal temperature, it will lose energy to the surrounding environment more slowly. The lower the interior temperature; the slower the heat loss. So the longer the heated interior space remains at the lower temperature, the more energy you save, because you has lost less energy than it would have at the higher temperature.
  • The same concept applies to raising your thermostat setting in the summer for cooling; a higher interior temperature will slow the flow of heat into your cooled interior space saving energy on air conditioning.
  • Still have a manual thermostat? You can make the most of your manual thermostat by adjusting the temperature during the day, especially before you leave and during the night hours. Typically, adjusting temperatures 5-8 degrees (down in winter, up in summer) can help save energy if you're going to be away for several hours.
