While LEDs are not required to be recycled, some stores and recycling centers will take your used LED bulbs for recycling. ENERGY STAR® recommends contacting your local municipal solid waste agency for recycling guidance or go to www.earth911.org
to find local recycling options for LED bulbs. To verify which organizations recycle LED bulbs, visit the EPA's eCycling website
Because LED bulbs don't contain mercury and aren't considered a hazardous material, they may be safely recycled. Each recycling center may have their own requirements so contact your local recycling center and ask if they have special LED bulb restrictions.
Contact your local hardware or home improvement store for on-site recycling programs that allow customers to bring used bulbs and batteries to their store to be recycled.
