Watt meters help you to determine the amount of electric energy your electronics and small appliances use. One type of meter plugs directly into a wall outlet and the electronic or appliance can be plugged into the meter. Some meters allow your utility rate to be programmed into the meter so detailed energy costs can be calculated while some models provide voltage, watts, amps and kilowatt usage. Some meters can be programmed to calculate the cost of energy used over a period of time.
If you have a power strip with your computer, monitor, printer, speaker and scanner plugged in, compare how much energy is being used when the items are active to the amount that may show up when your devices are shut down. Could you be saving this energy when your equipment isn’t in use?
