Budget Billing is a free billing option that helps level out your payments throughout the year.
  
How it works
Your baseline Budget Billing payment is calculated on your total energy usage during the previous year. This amount is divided into 12 equal amounts, which in turn becomes your baseline monthly payment.
  
Next, choose one of two program options

• Settlement Program - On your anniversary date of your enrollment, the difference between the cost of energy used during the year and the amount you paid over that year is calculated. Your bill in the month of your anniversary date - your “settlement month” will reflect this difference.
    
• Rollover Program - You only need to “settle up” if you close your Ameren Illinois account or your participation in Budget Billing is cancelled. Here’s how rollover works. After 12 months on the rollover program, the difference between the cost of energy used and the amount owed is calculated. If you paid less than your energy costs, that amount owed will “rollover” and be equally divided and applied to each of the following 12 months. If you paid more than your energy costs, the amount credited will “roll over” and be equally divided and applied to each of the following 12 months. 
    

When a payment amount changes
A review is performed periodically after your enrollment in Budget Billing to help keep your payments level throughout the year. For the Settlement Program, this helps keep the amount due (or credited) at the end of the year to a minimum.
