Snow may paint a pretty picture, but it can lead to problems for your natural gas service.
To operate properly, air needs to circulate freely around the equipment that brings natural gas into your home, as well as furnace and water heater vents. If snow has accumulated on the meter, use a broom to gently sweep it off. Keep intake and exhaust vents clear of snow and ice, too.
Take special care when clearing snow from this equipment. Never hit or shake your natural gas meter, piping, or vents, and don't use tools with sharp edges to remove snow or ice. Otherwise, you could damage the equipment and possibly create a safety hazard.
