“I call my home a bed-and-breakfast,” Marcia Townsend explains. “Anyone who needs a place to stay, this is home.”
Townsend’s home, however, was not as welcoming as she was. It always felt too hot or too cold inside. In the winter, Marcia set up space heaters to warm the living room and family room and watched her utility bill climb.
Townsend tried to make improvements herself, but saw no change in the temperature or her bill.
Then Ameren Illinois stepped in to help. The company started with a home energy performance audit, and then went to work throughout Townsend’s home. Ameren Illinois' ActOnEnergy program provided more than $2,000 to help cover the costs of a new furnace and air conditioner, a programmable thermostat, energy-efficient lighting and more. These improvements will save Townsend nearly $400 in energy costs every year and make her home more comfortable.
“The program helped me afford things I’ve never been able to afford,” Townsend says. “If people are concerned about their energy costs, they should go to ActOnEnergy.com.”
