Ameren Illinois Utilities Scholarship

 

Minority Scholarship Program: Guidelines and Procedures

 

The Program

 

The Ameren Illinois Utilities will award one, annually renewable, $2,500 scholarship every year to a minority graduating, high school senior accepted to an accredited 2-year or 4-year college or university  in the United States.

   

Eligibility

  Relatives of the Ameren Illinois Utilities employees, as defined in the Company's Employment Practices Policy, are not eligible to receive the scholarship.
  

Student selection will be based on scholastic ability, financial need, and career choice.
  

All scholarship recipients must earn a minimum cumulative high school grade point average (GPA) of 2.667 on a 4.00 scale or its equivalent.
  

The student must major in an engineering discipline.
  

The student must be a permanent resident within Ameren Illinois distribution service area at the time the scholarship is first awarded.
  

Applicant’s eligibility for this scholarship will not be affected by other scholarships the applicant receives.

   

Scholarship Recipients

 

The scholarship recipient is eligible to renew and receive the $2,500 scholarship annually, subject to the review and approval by the Ameren Illinois Utilities. The recipient must remain in good academic standing (as defined below) while carrying a minimum class load of 12 hours per semester.
  

While attending college, if a scholarship recipient's semester GPA falls below 2.5/4.0 or the equivalent for any two consecutive grading periods, the scholarship will not be awarded for subsequent grading periods. The student may regain a lost scholarship, subject to Ameren Illinois approval, by achieving a minimum semester GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale or the equivalent.
  
The student will be responsible for sending an official transcript to Ameren Illinois at the end of each semester. Transcripts should be mailed to: Wanda Cruz, Ameren Services, 370 South Main Street, E-05, Decatur, IL  62523.
  
Transcripts not sent in a timely fashion will jeopardize scholarship renewal.  
  

The scholarship award will be paid to the college on behalf of the student at the rate of $1,250/semester up to $2,500 per school year. 
  

The student must provide the Ameren Illinois Utilities with a copy of his or her letter of acceptance from a qualifying college or university to have the initial scholarship payment sent to the college.
  
The scholarship winner will be provided the option of working at Ameren each summer in the capacity of a summer intern, starting after the completion of his/her freshman term. When feasible, students will receive work assignments consistent with their field of study.
  
A mentor from the Ameren Illinois Utilities will be assigned to the scholarship recipient to provide guidance and encouragement throughout the program.
