Ameren Missouri believes in planting the right tree in the right place. To avoid potential tree and wire conflicts, Ameren Missouri offers a brochure to assist in selecting appropriate tree species and planting guidelines when planting near electric wires.

If you are planting new trees, keep these tips in mind:
- Plant the right tree in the right place. Avoid planting trees directly beneath power lines, near poles or too close to electrical equipment. Use the diagram below as a guide to safe spacing from overhead lines for various species of trees.
- Consider planting trees of a slower growth or limited height variety, such as crab apples, hawthorns, ornamental pears or cherries.
- Whether you are planning to do it yourself or hire a professional, smart digging means calling 811 before each job. The 811 service marks the underground utility lines clearly so that digging in the area will not disrupt service! Homeowners often make risky assumptions about whether or not they should get their utility lines marked, but every digging job requires a call - even a small project like planting trees and shrubs.
