Back to Smart Energy Plan

How will the Smart Energy Plan benefit you?

Stable and Predictable Rates

We first cut your rates by 6% in August 2018, froze them until April 2020 and capped them for the life of the plan. And coming soon is more information about new products, services and specialized rate options to help you manage and reduce your energy usage and save even more money.

Clean Energy

New wind and solar energy will help all of us reduce our carbon footprint. Whether you're a resident or small business owner, you can offset half of your energy use with solar energy without installing even one solar panel. Just subscribe to our Community Solar program. In some rural communities, the combination of clean solar energy and battery storage will boost reliability. And we plan to add at least 700 megawatts of wind energy to the grid. By the end of 2020, that additional wind energy will power more than 200,000 homes.

Fewer Outages

To reduce the likelihood of downed lines, we're installing stronger overhead lines and utility poles. New equipment on those overhead lines will withstand lightning strikes, and when used to support a new substation, the lines will reroute energy to another path if a problem is detected. New or upgraded substations will boost reliability and meet your community's growing energy needs long into the future but at a lower operating cost, saving you money.

Faster Service Response

With new smart technology, we can reduce some outages from hours to seconds. New automated equipment works with two-way communication devices to more rapidly detect and isolate an outage, reroute power and restore service. Your home's upgraded smart meter will also allow us to keep you informed during the restoration process.

Community Benefits

Across the state, our work will create the need for 16,000 direct and indirect jobs for Missourians. Some of those will be right here at Ameren Missouri. Others will be at Missouri businesses who partner with us to complete projects or at companies who create the equipment we need. Job growth and business expansion will boost local business revenues, housing starts and tax revenues that help support community social services, schools and police departments.

Economic Development

There's no better time to do business in Missouri. We offer the nation's best economic development incentives to encourage new and existing businesses to invest in Missouri, hire more workers and boost local economies. Those incentives include a 40% discount from base rates to qualifying business customers for five years.
