Installation

Ameren Missouri is starting smart electric meter upgrades in July 2020, and deployment will be completed by 2025. The exact time frame for your upgrade depends on where you live; you can check the online map for an idea of when your upgrade may happen. If your home or business is scheduled for an upgrade, we will notify you via letter and a reminder postcard prior to installation.
You'll receive a bill insert approximately three months prior to your upgrade informing you that either Ameren Missouri or our installation contractor, will be coming to your home or business to upgrade the electric meter or gas module. We will send additional communications to keep you informed of the electric meter and gas module upgrades.
  • Authorized installation contractors with Ameren Missouri ID badges will make meter upgrades weekdays during regular business hours.
  • Your safety is our priority. Our installers will only report to work if they are feeling healthy.
  • Whether or not you are present, we can perform the upgrade as long as there is clear and safe access to your meter and pets are secured.
  • While at your home, installers will practice social distancing measures as recommended by the CDC, including staying 6 feet away from customers.
  • Installers will let you know when they arrive; the process will take less than 20 minutes. We will leave a notice to let you know if the upgrade was completed.
  • There may be a brief interruption to your electric service.
  • You will not see a separate line item charge on your bill for the meter upgrade.

Ameren Missouri has a medical equipment registry, and all medical registry accounts are tagged at the meter to alert the installer. Please call our customer service number at 800.552.7583 if you would like an application for this registry or to confirm that your account is still registered.

If you are already in our medical registry, we will schedule an appointment with you to complete the meter upgrade. Please note that you will need to be at home and give consent in order for us to complete the upgrade. If you are not home for the upgrade appointment you will need to reschedule for a time when you can be home and give consent.

If you decide that you do not want a smart electric meter or gas module, you have the option to enroll in our Non Standard Metering (NSM) service. NSM service requires Ameren Missouri to visit your property monthly to collect energy usage information. There is a non-refundable $100 setup charge to install a non-standard meter, and a $40 monthly charge to help cover the cost of monthly manual meter reads.
