Time of Day Rate

Savings You Control

Save energy and money by changing the way you use energy during the summer months. With the Time of Day rate, you’ll pay a lower rate during off-peak hours and a higher rate during peak hours – which is the heat of the day. You control how and when you use energy. By changing when you cook dinner, wash laundry or cool your home, you can enjoy significant savings on energy costs.

The Time of Day rate is a great savings opportunity for customers who can change their lifestyles to minimize energy usage during peak hours. Here are a few things to consider:

  • If the average customer makes SLIGHT changes, you could see an additional $10 savings per month.
  • If the average customer makes SIGNIFICANT changes, you could see an additional $20 savings per month.
  • If the average customer does NOT change the way you use energy during peak hours, you could see a monthly bill up to $20 higher or more.

Here’s how this option works June through September:

Peak Hours Time of Day Rate

PEAK HOURS:
2 p.m. – 7 p.m.
Monday – Friday
RATE: 31.5 cents/kWh

OFF-PEAK HOURS:
7 p.m. – 2 p.m.
Monday - Friday
All day on weekends
RATE: 7.87 cents/kWh

The standard rate of 8.76 cents/kWh for the first 750 kWh and 6.00 cents/kWh for more than 750 kWh applies from October through May.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Time of Day rate program is based on the time of day customers use energy and Ameren Missouri’s cost of supplying energy during particular hours. For customers who choose to participate in the Time of Day rate program, energy rates are 5 cents a kilowatt-hour less than standard customer rates during off-peak hours (7 p.m. – 2 p.m., M-F and weekends, June - September) when demand for electricity is lower. However, during peak hours (2 p.m. – 7 p.m., M-F, June – September) – the heat of the day when demand is high – electricity rates are 19 cents a kilowatt-hour more than standard rates.
  • You may choose to cool your home to a lower-than-normal-temperature before peak hours (2 p.m.) and then turn up your thermostat higher than normal just before peak hours start. Turn off the AC when no one is home.
  • Avoid running appliances, such as your washer/dryer and dishwasher.
  • Schedule your electric vehicle to charge off-peak hours.
  • Do not run your pool pump or pool heater.
  • Do not use your oven or stove since this will heat up your home.
Summer is when demand for electricity is highest on the energy grid. The Time of Day rate rewards customers for using energy during the summer months during off-peak hours.
A customer must have an accessible individual meter.
This program is open to residential electric customers only. If you are a net metering (solar) customer, you are NOT eligible for this rate.

Savings will vary by customer. The more energy you shift to off-peak, the more money you might save. Your monthly savings will be shown on your monthly billing statements in the Account Messages section.
