Illinois Valley Reliability Project
Ameren Transmission is proposing the Illinois Valley Reliability Project to improve energy reliability for communities in Bureau and LaSalle counties. The Project includes constructing a new, approximately 21-mile, 138-kV transmission line, upgrading the existing Princeton substation, and building a new switching station called Lima located near Peru. The new transmission line will connect the Princeton substation to the new Lima switching station.
About the Project

The Illinois Valley Reliability Project will improve energy reliability and resiliency for local homes and businesses, upgrade existing infrastructure, and support long-term economic growth in the region. Our goal is to have the Project in service and providing benefits to local communities in late 2029.

Ameren Selects Primary and Alternate Routes, Files Application with Illinois Commerce Commission

On January 29, 2026, Ameren submitted an application to the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) for the Illinois Valley Reliability Project.  The ICC will review the Primary and Alternate Routes as part of the application and, if approved, will select which of the two routes will be built. Only one of the routes will be constructed. Ameren anticipates a decision from the ICC in summer 2026.

Landowners of record along the filed Primary and Alternate Routes will receive mailed notification letters from Ameren and the ICC. If the CPCN is granted, we will notify landowners along the approved route and begin easement negotiations. Our goal is to have the project in service in late 2029.

For more information on the ICC filing, visit icc.illinois.gov/docket and enter 26-0081 in the docket search box.

Our Project team gathered and reviewed data and collected input from community members, landowners, and stakeholders in the Study Area during three different stages of public engagement, which occurred in August, September and November 2025. All input received was reviewed and considered during the development of the Preliminary Route Alternatives and the Preferred Route Alternatives. Once all comments were collected, reviewed and considered, Ameren selected and filed the Primary and Alternate Routes with the ICC. We appreciate everyone’s participation during the routing study and public involvement process.
