Grant Application and Review Process

Application Process

The following criteria must be met when applying for a grant:


  • Organizations must be located in the Ameren Missouri service area.
  • Organizations must be tax-exempt, as described in the Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
  • Individuals, political organizations or candidates, and religious, fraternal, veterans, social or similar groups generally do not qualify for an Ameren Missouri non-profit grant.

  • Note: When prompted, select the option to "Save As" and save to a location you will find again later. If the "Open" option is selected, a window will pop up asking for log in credentials, if this happens select "Cancel" and the document will open.  

Review the grant requirements and submit applicable documentation with your application:

 

Applications less than $5,000 

  • Cover letter that includes the amount of grant requested
  • IRS determination letter certifying 501(c)(3) status 


Applications more than $5,000 

  • Cover letter that includes the amount of grant requested
  • IRS Form 990 for most recent fiscal year must be verified and filed
  • IRS determination letter certifying 501(c)(3) status
  • If the grant is for a specific project, provide detailed budget for project, including income and expenses 
  • List of Board members and executive officers, including titles and affiliations
  • Most recent annual report or other literature summarizing programs

Non-Monetary Contributions 

Ameren Missouri also provides limited support in the form of surplus materials, such as office furnishings, computers and other items that are no longer in service.

Review Process

Applications are reviewed and approved based on the following criteria: 

  • The similarities between program goals and Ameren Missouri’s contribution program focus
  • Overall benefit to the community
  • Organization’s overall mission and services, and how the project fits the mission
  • Financial stability of the organization
  • Qualifications and experience of those who administer the program
  • Total level of support sought from other sources, and the level of commitment

Contribution requests are reviewed and approved by the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee of the Board of Directors, officers and managers of the company, dependent upon the dollar amount requested. 

There is no deadline for submitting a grant application, however, applications received after Dec. 1 will be reviewed during the following year. 

The application review process generally takes 4-6 weeks. If an application is approved, the contact person listed on the application is notified. A delay in processing applications will occur if the application is not submitted through the contributions email of corporatecontributions@ameren.com.
