How Does Pure Power® Work?

Ameren Missouri gets 100% of the Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) for the Pure Power program from Midwest wind farms like Farmers City Wind Farm in Atchison, Missouri.

For my Home:

Residential customers can participate in Pure Power in one of three ways:

100% Pure Power Usage: When a residential customer signs up for 100% usage, Ameren Missouri will add an additional penny charge for each kilowatt-hour (kWh) of electricity your home uses each month. The additional charge will go toward the purchase of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) from Midwest renewable energy resources. For the average Ameren Missouri customer, this will add an additional $10-$15 to your bill each month depending on your electrical usage. (If you don’t know your monthly electrical usage, you can view your personal usage history by either logging in or signing up for Ameren Missouri’s online account management program.) Sign-up information.

Pure Power Blocks: As a second option, residential customers can indicate how many RECs or “Blocks”* they wish to purchase each month for an additional $10.00 per each 1,000 kWh block. One REC (or block) captures the green power attributes (greenhouse gas reduction) from 1,000 kWh (or 1 megawatt-hour) of regional renewable energy delivered to the Midwest energy pool and represents the usage of an average Ameren Missouri customer each month. To enroll in this option, see the Pure Power sign-up information.

Pure Power Half Block: The final option for residential customers is to sign up to purchase a “Half Block” each month - an additional $5.00 for a 500 kWh half block. This option is designed for customers who want to support renewable energy at a more economical commitment level each month. To enroll in this option, see the Pure Power sign-up information.

Pure Power premiums are used to purchase Green-e Energy Certified® RECs from regional wind energy and other renewable generation facilities. More about certification.

No contract is required to participate in the Pure Power program. Review the FAQs.

Pure Power customers may cancel their participation in the program at any time by contacting the Ameren Missouri Customer Service Center, 800.552.7583, or by emailing us.

Participation in this program does not constitute the purchase of energy. Renewable Energy Certificates, which represent the environmental attributes associated with past renewable energy generation, are retired on behalf of program participants. All RECs purchased under this program are Green-e Energy Certified® by the independent Center for Resource Solutions.

For my Business:

Business customers who participate in Pure Power indicate how many “Blocks”* they wish to purchase. Each 1,000 kilowatt-hour (kWh) block costs $10 - which equals one Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) from regional renewable sources that will be added to the Midwest energy pool.

Business customers interested in a no-obligation Pure Power proposal can contact the Pure Power team.

Or, if you already know how many blocks your business would like to purchase and are ready to sign up, see sign-up information.
