Energy Assistance

We all need help from time to time. If you’re struggling to pay your bill, we have energy assistance programs for customers at all income levels to help you through tough stretches.


Income Eligible Programs

Depending on your monthly income and number of people in your household, you may be eligible for more than one program. To get started, identify the program(s) you may qualify for based on income and family size.

LIHEAP

LIHEAP provides federally funded assistance to help families find summer, winter and one-time energy assistance.


You may qualify if your monthly income is less than $2,840 for an individual, up to $7,537 for a household of 8.

Keeping Cool

Helps elderly and disabled customers, and households with children under age 5 with $50 bill credits per month, May-September.


You may qualify if your monthly income is less than $3,325 for an individual, up to $11,608 for a household of 8.

Dollar More

Eligible customers can receive up to $600. If you would like to donate, add $1 or more to your bill to help.


You may qualify if your monthly income is less than $3,990 for an individual, up to $13,930 for a household of 8.

Weatherization Assistance

Provides cost-effective, energy-saving home improvements at no cost for qualified homeowners and renters.


You may qualify if your monthly income is less than $2,660 for an individual, up to $9,287 for a household of 8.

Keeping Current

Helps you catch up and stay current on your electric bill with monthly bill credits when you make on-time monthly payments.


You may qualify if your monthly income is less than $2,660 for an individual, up to $9,287 for a household of 8.

Clean Slate

The Clean Slate program can help clear past-due balances to help eligible gas customers start fresh.


You may qualify if your monthly income is less than $3,990 for an individual, up to $13,930 for a household of 8.

LIHEAP

LIHEAP provides federally funded assistance to help families find summer, winter and one-time energy assistance.


You may qualify if your monthly income is less than $3,332 for an individual, up to $8,842 for a household of 8.

SARP
Income-qualified customers, who have applied for LIHEAP, can get up to $2,000 annually in deferred balance credits.

Warm Neighbors Cool Friends

A year-round assistance program to help those who may not qualify for financial assistance from other government or non-profit programs.


You may qualify if your monthly income is between $3,333 and $4,713 for an individual, up to between $8,843 and $13,539 for a household of 8.

Natural Gas Service Discount

This program provides discounts on natural gas service charges for qualifying Ameren Illinois customers.

Additional Programs and Assistance Options

New Start Energy Relief

If you are unhoused or a senior at risk of eviction from public housing, we offer past-due bill forgiveness. 

Veterans Energy Assistance

Active-duty military, veterans and their families can receive up to $600 to help pay past-due utility bills. Call 211 for more information.

Health and Safety Assistance

No matter what unique circumstances you or your loved ones might encounter, we have ways to help with Medical Hardship relief, Medical Equipment Registry and Our Caring Contact program.

If you have an outstanding balance, you can make an arrangement with Ameren Missouri to avoid disconnection.

Income Eligible Status

Ameren Illinois residential customers who meet the requirements of an income-eligible customer will have deposits for new service and late payment charges waived.
