You’ll pay the Community Solar rate, which tends to be 2 to 5 cents higher per kWh than the standard residential rate.
While you pay more per kWh for the Community Solar rate, you may eventually experience a cost-savings. That’s because the rate is made of two parts, and the part you pay for generation will never increase:
Solar Generation Charge – covers the cost of building and generating solar energy. This charge will never increase.
Facilities Charge – covers the costs of providing service to your home or business. Over time, this charge is expected to increase.
Our subscription process includes a tool that helps you estimate what you’d pay each month on the Community Solar rate. To reduce your overall energy usage and costs, you can combine your Community Solar rate with one of Ameren Missouri’s on-peak/off-peak rates.
A Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) provides proof that your Community Solar subscription adds clean energy to the grid that helps power area homes and businesses.
Each certificate represents one megawatt-hour of electricity. When you subscribe to Community Solar, you’ll be assigned one or more RECs at no cost to you. When construction of a solar facility is complete and the generated energy is added to the grid, Ameren retires the certificates. No action is needed on your part.
The RECs offer proof and peace of mind that you are doing what you can to achieve your sustainability goals, advance renewable energy, and reduce carbon emissions in your community. They also prove that Ameren values your commitment and delivers the clean energy you help us generate.
