Illinois Rivers Project

Ameren Transmission (ATXI) is building a 345,000 volt transmission line from Palmyra, Missouri, to Sugar Creek, Indiana. The ATXI Illinois Rivers team recently reached a monumental achievement constructing the tallest transmission structures in Ameren history.

  • Four towers are required for this river crossing, two are on the east side and two on the west side of the Illinois River.

  • The Meredosia-Ipava river crossing towers will reach a height of 486 feet with a span of more than 3700 feet between the large towers and 7300 feet between the dead end towers.

  • The estimated $1.4 billion, 375 mile-long Illinois Rivers Transmission Project is scheduled to be completed in December of 2019.

The Illinois Rivers Transmission Project:

  • Improves energy reliability and increases transmission capacity

  • Provides local and regional economic benefits

  • Facilitates the delivery of renewable energy
