The energy charges you see on your monthly energy bill statement are divided into two main categories: Delivery and Supply. Delivery service is what you get from Ameren Illinois – it's the cost of bringing your electricity and/or natural gas to you. This includes construction, maintenance and improvements to the electric and natural gas distribution system, plus the employees and other services that keep the electricity and natural gas flowing.
Supply charges, on the other hand, are the costs for the electricity and/or natural gas that comes from suppliers that send electricity or natural gas through our system to your home or business. As a delivery company, Ameren Illinois does not profit from electric or natural gas supply charges. These charges are passed through, dollar-for-dollar.
In Illinois, all Ameren Illinois customers have the power to choose the company that supplies the electricity portion of their energy needs. Non-residential customers can also choose their natural gas supplier.

Ameren Illinois rates include two core components - energy and delivery.
The energy component covers the actual cost of power and energy procured by Ameren unless an alternate supplier has been chosen. (More about Your Electric Supply Options.) Ameren Illinois places no additional mark up on the energy supply charges.
The delivery component covers the utility’s cost of bringing electricity to the customer, regardless of who supplies the energy. This component includes the cost to construct and maintain the delivery system to get electricity from the supplier to the customer.
Rider SSR - Standby Service Rider (PDF)
The Ameren Missouri Rates group has developed excel tools which customers can use to input projected load profiles and generation assumptions to estimate the impact of Rider SSR on their bill. The bill impact tools are designed to utilize 15 minute usage data which is the same information currently used to determine how bills are calculated under Rider SSR. For customers who only have hourly data as an input, the Rates Group has also created a tool to convert this into 15 minute data for ease of use with the bill impact tools.
The SSR rate tools are provided to educate and inform how a customer's bill may be impacted given various usage and generation assumptions under Rider SSR. The decision to invest in cogeneration is complex, and involves numerous factors outside the scope of rate design and the bill impact tools provided on this page.
