Frequently Asked Questions

Ameren Missouri has several Smart Energy Plan upgrade projects in progress across the state. Each project has a unique schedule for the necessary upgrades.
You may receive a postcard about the project in advance of field work and/or construction. Our crews may also hang a notice on your door informing you of upcoming access to our right-of-way on your property.
Once the upgrades are complete in your community, Ameren Missouri will remove construction equipment and begin cleaning up project work areas. You’re welcome to contact us if you have concerns or questions regarding our work.

Over the next five years, we’ll invest in more than 2,000 infrastructure improvement projects across our service territory that will enhance reliability, provide smarter energy infrastructure and introduce new sources of renewable energy. These enhancements will also help to reduce or eliminate outages and provide new tools to help you manage your energy usage. Enhancements include:

  • New smart grid sensors, switches and self-healing equipment will be installed to more rapidly detect and isolate outages – speeding power restoration.
  • More than 70 new or upgraded substations to increase energy service reliability and serve more customers through a streamlined network that is more cost-effective and efficient.
  • More than 400 miles of new underground cable and equipment to create a more efficient and reliable underground energy delivery system that better serves customers.
  • A stronger, more secure energy delivery backbone including installing 12,000 new utility poles for storm hardening, many fortified with composite materials to better withstand severe weather.
