Smart Energy Plan

Stable Rates. Greater Reliability.

Ameren Missouri's Smart Energy Plan gives you a smarter grid and cleaner, more reliable energy, all while keeping rates stable and predictable. Over the next five years, we'll invest in more than 2,000 electric projects that will create a stronger, more secure energy backbone and introduce new sources of renewable energy. Here's what investing in our infrastructure will deliver for you.

          Smart Technology, Faster Service Response

New, smart grid technology will help reduce or eliminate power outages and more quickly restore your power in the event of a service disruption. For example, our expanded wireless footprint with fiber-enabled cell sites will allow us to respond to some outages without having to send a crew. Smart sensors, switches and self-healing equipment will more rapidly detect and isolate outages, speeding power restoration. Smart meter technology will give you more insight and control of your energy options and costs. Many of these upgrades will reduce Ameren Missouri's operating costs and save you money.

          Reliable Service

High winds and severe storms wreak havoc on aging power lines and utility poles. We're replacing both. We'll install 12,000 new utility poles for storm hardening, many fortified with composite materials. Smarter, automated equipment and more than 70 new or upgraded substations will increase energy service reliability. And more than 400 miles of new underground cable and equipment will create a more efficient and reliable underground energy delivery system.

          Cleaner, Renewable Energy Sources

Planned investments in solar and wind generation will provide you with energy from cleaner, renewable sources. This includes $1 billion for wind energy. It also includes more solar energy with battery storage to boost reliability, particularly in rural areas. These projects will help Ameren Missouri meet our goal to reduce carbon emissions by 80 percent.

          More Business, More Jobs

Ameren Missouri's Smart Energy Plan will make Missouri an even better place to live and do business. The plan's 2,000 infrastructure improvement projects will create thousands of direct and indirect jobs for Missouri workers. Economic development incentives to qualifying new and existing businesses will drive expansion and job creation. More business and more jobs will increase local tax revenues, which help support community social services, schools and police departments.

          Stable and Predictable Rates

Your rates were cut by 6% in August 2018, and your base electric rates won't change until April 2020. And, for the first time ever, rate caps will limit the size of any future increases for the life of the plan, making your energy rates stable and predictable.
